Hungary anti-immigration bill is an ‘assault on human rights’: U.N.

The United Nations has termed an anti-immigration law proposed in Hungary as an assault on human rights and urged its government to uphold the right of freedom of association.

UN Human Rights spokesman Rupert Colville told a Geneva news briefing that the bill represented an unjustified restriction on the right to freedom of association and is a worrying continuation of the government’s assault on human rights and civic space.

Earlier, the nationalist government in Budapest has submitted legislation to parliament that would empower the interior minister to ban non-governmental organizations supporting migration. (Reuters)
